The IFMA NYC Global Workforce Initiative (GWI) presents a panel discussion about the benefits of earning a facility management degree.

Panelists will share how having a degree has changed their career path and enabled them to navigate the changing work landscape, while also shaping expectations for their businesses and enabling them to advance in their career trajectory.

Discussion topics will include a guide to understanding of the impact of having an FM degree from the employer’s perspective. We will also discuss how having degreed FMs help a business to navigate changes in the workplace and plan for the future. The discussion will include design and planning decisions that are being made today and how having an FM degree enables professionals to make impactful decisions for the future viability of facilities.

Moderator

Dr. Audrey Schultz, PhD
Pratt Institute

Dr. Schultz is a tenured professor teaching Facilities Management courses in the IFMA- and ABET-accredited, STEM-designated master’s program in FM at Pratt Institute.
She has managed people and projects for more than 38 years and held positions as an interior designer, facilities manager, project and construction manager, and she has been involved with design and construction inspections and building commissioning services on large federal government and military programs. 

In conjunction with 15 years in academia teaching interior design at Northern Virginia Community College (NOVA) construction management at California Polytechnic State University (Cal Poly), Dr. Schultz holds leadership positions on the Pratt Academic Senate as Finance Officer and is a member of Institute wide and School of Architecture committees and initiates. 

Dr. Schultz received her PhD in the Built Environment from The University of Salford in England, concentrating on lean visual management technologies in facilities management. She has international research and publishing experience in lean visual management, value in facilities management, BIM, and PPPs (Public Private Partnerships) in regenerating local communities. She is a member of IFMA, IFMA/WE (Workplace Evolutionaries), LCI, NFMT, CMAA and is on the local CMAA Metro NY/NJ Chapter Board as Director of Student Outreach Committee.

Darryl Halickman specializes in managing Facilities and Infrastructure projects for healthcare and life sciences. Before studying for her master’s in Facilities Management at Pratt Institute, she completed a bachelor’s degree in Architecture at McGill University. She is passionate about encouraging more people to pursue careers in Facilities Management.

Giselle Holder
Director

Giselle Holder holds her FMP and is a Certified IFMA Trainer/Instructor. Holder has her Project Management Professional Certification, PMP. She graduated from Rochester Institute of Technology with a Master of Science in Facilities Management.

Ryan King has a master’s degree in FM from Pratt Institute and has worked for CBRE and Newmark Knight Frank. He is Six Sigma Black Belt.

Jose Loren

As Facilities Program Manager, Jose oversees facilities operations programs and strategy across Facebook’s North American and South American regions.Jose primarily focuses on designing,implementing, measuring and refining strategic operational initiatives and projects throughout the Americas with the intention of improving overall performance through process standardization, increased operational efficiencies and resource modeling. Jose also works on broader global initiatives and represents the Americas region by providing region-specific approaches that will be accounted for in key global operational decisions
